A butterfly valve is characterized by its disc-shaped closing mechanism (butterfly plate) that rotates around the valve axis to open or close the valve. It is primarily used for cut-off and throttling control in pipelines. The disc, positioned in the center of the pipe, is connected to an actuator via a rod. By rotating the actuator, the disc is turned either parallel or perpendicular to the flow, enabling control over the flow rate by adjusting the deflection angle of the butterfly plate.
